Time & Location
About the Event
Enjoy a guided paddleboard tour through history with Dr. Greg Grant, outdoor enthusiast and board member of National Park Partners; the non-profit dedicated to conserving the natural, historic, and cultural resources of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. The group will paddle stable, inflatable paddleboards from Greenway Farm along beautiful North Chickamauga Creek for 1-mile. Along the journey, we will re-discover the site where Union General William T. Sherman launched 116 pontoon boats to begin his movement towards Missionary Ridge. As we paddle the quiet creek, we will pass the TVA Big Ridge Small Wild Area with interesting eroded limestone cliffs, the rock quarry used by TVA in the construction of Chickamauga Dam and you're likely to spot great blue herons, kingfishers, turtles and other wildlife along the way. Your ticket includes all paddleboard equipment, instruction, guided history tour, plus a donation to National Park Partners. This is a great way to get outside and give back to our local National Park!
This 2-hour, guided and equipped paddleboard tour is perfect for beginner and intermediate paddlers, ages 16 and up who want a unique adventure on one of Chattanooga’s scenic waterways while giving back to the National Park Partners. You don't have to be an experienced paddler to participate in this adventure. Everyone receives paddling instruction, water safety information and will be properly outfitted for adventure before setting out for a leisurely-paced and peaceful paddle on the creek. Guides will provide on-water support throughout the duration of this historical tour.
Cost is $75 per person which includes the guided tour, all paddleboard equipment, and a donation to NPP to support their efforts to conserve the natural, historic, and cultural resources of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, including Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. We're offering two tours on this date as long as we reach a minimum of 4 participants per tour. Individuals with their own paddle crafts can join the tour with a donation to NPP.
